TipLog: Server Tip Tracker
Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 9, 2025
This Privacy Policy explains how TipLog ("we", "our", or "the app") handles information when you use our mobile application TipLog: Server Tip Tracker.
We built TipLog with privacy as a core principle. Your tip data is yours — we don't want it, we don't store it, and we have no way to see it.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
The following information stays entirely on your device and is never sent to us or any other party:
- Your shift records (dates, hours, tips, wages, sales)
- Personal notes, section names, or comments
- Tip-out amounts, hourly rates, or earnings
- Tax estimates or CSV exports you generate
- Your name, email, or contact information
- Workplace information or employer details
We do not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information to use TipLog. The app works fully offline.
2. Local Storage
TipLog stores your shift data on your device using a local database (SQLite via Android Room). This data:
- Never leaves your device through TipLog
- Is deleted permanently when you uninstall the app (unless backed up — see below)
- Is not encrypted by us beyond the standard protection your device provides
3. Google Drive Auto-Backup
Android's standard "Auto Backup for Apps" feature is enabled in TipLog. This means:
- Your shift database is periodically copied to your own personal Google Drive account
- Backups go to a private 25 MB allotment that does not count against your Drive storage
- Only you (and Google) have access to these backups — TipLog cannot read them
- If you reinstall TipLog with the same Google account, your data is restored automatically
You can disable this at any time in your phone's Settings → Google → Backup. This feature is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
TipLog is free to use and supported by ads served through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use information for personalized advertising, including:
- Your device's advertising ID
- Approximate location (country/region level)
- Device type, OS version, and language
- Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)
- App usage data related to ads
You can opt out of personalized ads or reset your advertising ID in your phone's Settings → Privacy → Ads (location may vary by device).
For more information about Google's data handling practices, see:
5. Permissions
TipLog requests the following Android permissions:
- Internet & Network State — Required to load advertisements only
- Notifications (Android 13+) — Used to send optional shift reminders and weekly summaries. You can disable these in your device settings at any time
- AD_ID — Required by Google AdMob to serve ads
We do not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, location, or any other sensitive data.
6. CSV Export
TipLog includes a feature to export your shift data as a CSV file. When you export:
- The CSV file is created locally on your device
- You choose where to send it (email, cloud storage, etc.) using your device's standard share menu
- TipLog does not transmit the file to any server
- Where the file ultimately ends up is governed by the privacy policy of whichever app you choose to share it with
7. Children's Privacy
TipLog is intended for adults working in tipped occupations. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13 years of age. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us and we will take steps to address it.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Because all your data is stored locally on your device:
- You can delete individual shifts at any time from within the app
- You can delete all data at any time by clearing the app's storage in Android Settings, or by uninstalling TipLog
- To remove backups from your Google Drive, see Google's instructions
9. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Since TipLog does not collect or store your personal data on any server we control, traditional data subject rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability) are exercised directly through your device:
- Access: All your data is visible inside the TipLog app
- Export: Use the built-in CSV export feature
- Deletion: Delete shifts inside the app, or uninstall TipLog
- Opt out of ads: Use your device's advertising ID controls (see Section 4)
For data collected by Google AdMob, please refer to Google's Privacy Policy to exercise your rights with Google.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated through the app or our Play Store listing.
